THINGS TO KNOW

Many people say that a dassie is a dassie, is a dassie is a dassie: but often they are not. And although their ways were oft thought predictable they have recently proven to be a whole lot more ingenious than rocky outcrop spotters were willing to concede in the 70’s. (Of course not many people spotting rocky outcrops in the 70’s went on to complete piercing scientific soliloquies, but this music festival missive will not dwell on that right now).

The bottom line is that dassie’s happen.

The unassuming, sun loving, eagle fearing, nephew of the elephant has many hidden nuances: much like the average OppiKoppi camp site on day three. And according to a correspondent from Maxnormal.TV many of the common (sic) dassies have the ability to disappear for as long they can hold their breath, which makes them even more trend setting and therefore a very good animal to name a festival after. Or for.

It therefore gives the OppiKoppi family more than a bit of pleasure to introduce the 13th edition of the biggest annual Southern African event without socialites as the “OppiKoppi Way of the Dassie” festival. What is more: With the help of the cunning crew from MaxNormal.TV there will be a great many Dassie schemes and tricks unearthed for the benefit of the general populace in weeks ahead: which the cousins should really carry with them in their heart of hearts. Or coolboxes.

Practice to be psychic.

For you too can join the wife accruing secular dassies on their sunned (some say shimmering) road to wellness, forgiveness and prime rock(s).

With regards to FESTIVAL INFORMATION here is a whole wheelbarrow full of helpful things for the uninitiated and the true fans who have forgotten or never actually knew what the rules were.
Things like:
  • Gate opening times: There will be a slightly stricter time for the opening of the gates due to production issues. So boys and girls the gates will open on the morning of 8 August 2007.
  • Do's and don’t's: don’t be an irritation and practice to be psychic or saadtjies. Also how not to get moered or thrown out, and things to remember (you don’t need a lot)
  • Flea market submission: if you want to sell you stuff. E-mail: cobus@oppikoppi.co.za
  • Maps: if you can’t drive on the force field alone.
  • Band voting schemes: help your friends or favourite band play at your festival (to be launched pretty, pretty soon)
  • Forums: catch a lift or something.
  • If you are one of the media and want to say your say about the festival, download our Media Accreditation form here, closing date: 20 July 2007
5 RULES OF THE DASSIE (Source: Maxnormal.TV)
  • Don’t speak what is not true
  • Don’t take what is not offered
  • Don’t be a pervert
  • Practice to be psychic
  • Don’t kill anyone or anything
LINE-UP
Most newcomers and old hands alike usually just want to know who is playing and when they will be on stage. This will come. However the OppiKoppi team is really proud to say that the Line-Up for 2007 is probably one of the most special in the history for several reasons, as will become apparent in weeks ahead. Some of the acts already confirmed (in writing) are listed on our Line-up page but there is a small army of plectrum abusers being worked through the administrative system for the collective tune clan’s enjoyment. You will have a good time: trust us.
