POWERED, PLUMED AND PLAYED BY CUERVO, LEVI’S® ORIGINAL MUSIC AND MK

Whether you’ve experience a Bad Beat or showing off a Royal Flush, this year’s OppiKoppi “WildCard” August Festival, proudly beat on by Levi’s® Original Music, MK and Jose Cuervo Tequila, has a suit for everyone. Over 70 artists, 4 different stages and 3 days of non-stop music will warm any tune lover’s heart (or spade). Follow the beat and mixes of Party People insubordination or have your dose of melodic metal-core sounds as part of the Revolution Stage. The weekend of 7 – 9 August will be a Full House of musical styles.

Roll the dice and throw some international artists - The Mojomatics (Italy), Lucky Fonz III (NL) and The Rootsriders (NL) - into the mix and you will get a worldly flavour of tunes. The claque will gather and the mingling will begin. The international tunes are brought to you by good friends, Party People, Roadshock, IIC, OppiKoppi Productions and the exchange program with Arezzo Wave Festival in Italy.

Our friends at Revolution and Flag will be hosting a stage on Friday 8 August to soothe tune lovers with the highest caliber of hand picked artists from South Africa’s underground. Punk, Ska, Voodoo Rock and EMO, you will find it. No games, no trickery, no special effects.

If heavy rock is not your game and you prefer something a bit more electro and hip hop, pick the right card and groove on over to the Sipho Gumede Stage boasting the likes of djkenzhero’s Party People Movement, Shaun Duvet, Obita, Tasha Baxter, Dj Bob and many more. As always, this stage will welcome the sun on Saturday and Sunday Morning.

The OppiKoppi “Wildcard” August Festival also celebrates the maiden year of the first ever exchange programme between OppiKoppi and The Arezzo Wave Festival in Italy. Made possible by the IIC, this first year sees South African darlings Freshlyground to perform at Arezzo Wave (16 to 19 July) and the Italian rockers the Mojomatics touring SA during the first week of August ending at the Oppikoppi “Wildcard” August Festival. Just like the previous exchanges with festivals such as Pukkelpop (Belgium), Lowlands (The Netherlands) and Quart (Norway) the program will see an exchange of talent from the host countries to go perform at the two festivals.

With regards to FESTIVAL INFORMATION here is a whole wheelbarrow full of helpful things for the uninitiated and the true fans who have forgotten or never actually knew what the rules were.

  • The chance to start your Koppi party the moment you leave Pretoria, without drinking-and-driving.
  • The chance to travel with ALL your buddies together (not just the 2 in the passenger seat, 5 in the back seat, and the guy in the boot who finishes half the booze before you get there).

  • The chance to do your bit for the environment by not taking 50 separate cars.
  • And last but not least… Not having to sober up or drive home on Sunday.
